In the spring of 2015, we began work on several upmarket apartments in a purpose-build mansion block overlooking Grosvenor Square. Our aim was to refurbish the apartments to include the latest contemporary design and technical innovations, whilst retaining the character and period charm of the original homes.

Working around the residents

As usual, careful design and planning were of the essence on this project, but it was our construction and management teams who were faced with a particular challenge. All work on the building’s interior had to be conducted without causing unnecessary disruption or inconvenience to the existing residents. We devised a work cycle that would impact as little as possible on the residents’ lifestyle, then began work. We created traditional oak herringbone flooring which was then complemented by bespoke joinery, including handmade doors, skirting boards, wardrobes and fittings.

Our supply chain includes experienced specialist artisans, so we were able to replicate the existing ornate plaster coving, cornicing and wall framing. Entrance halls were floored in slab marble whilst the bathrooms also had marble floors, plus Villeroy and Boch sanitary ware, whirlpool baths and massage therapy hydro systems. The contemporary technology theme was completed by home automation systems like Lutron lighting, voice-activated lighting curtains and heating controls operated by smart phones and tablets.
